Tumblr blogs

Hello, all.  I am a bit behind the times and have finally gotten a tumblr.  I'm not sure how often this tumblr will be used, that is neither here nor there.  What is both here and there, is that I really don't navigate tumblr much outside of what other people send me.  And since there's no one currently in the irc channel to ask, I figured I'd post here.

What tumblr blogs do I go to for a Steve/Tony fix?  Or tags.  I'm not sure I've figured out how the tags really work across tumblr, mostly because China hates tags (and all of tumblr at the moment, but that's beside the point).  I've got the com tumblr followed, but I know that can't be all there is out there.  Basically, give me all of your favorite Steve/Tony or Avenger-y things.  Or otherwise just discuss fandom on tumblr.  Both work for me.

Hi
I am on tumblr. You can search Stony and that will pop up some blogs that post Stony stuff. Super husbands too.

I am on tumblr and you can follow me, I post stony mostly. You can find me by looking for winterstar95. If you post your tumblr blog name here or a link to your blog, I'll follow you!

The 'stevetony' tag (http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/stevetony) is where I tend to find the best stuff on there. A lot of authors have tumblrs like missbecky (http://missbeckywrites.tumblr.com/), nightwalker (http://onemuseleft.tumblr.com/), and winterstar up there, so you might want to try checking AO3 profiles of your favorites and seeing if they list a tumblr URL!

There are a ton of fanartists on there as well like ironfries (http://ironfries.tumblr.com/), royswordsman (http://royswordsman.tumblr.com/), krusca (http://artingkrusca.tumblr.com/), sconee (http://sconee.tumblr.com/), whipbogard (http://whipbogard.tumblr.com/) and zombietonbo (http://zombietonbo.tumblr.com/) (AND SO MANY MORE).

Most of those blogs, though, are either personal blogs with a heavy Steve/Tony leaning or they're multi-fandom art blogs with heavy Steve/Tony leanings. There are some blog that are geared to post nothing BUT the ship but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is fiftyshadesofstony (http://fiftyshadesofstony.tumblr.com/). Someone else might be able to recommend some more like that. :)

(Personally I'm on there as bootycap (http://bootycap.tumblr.com/) but I'm also a personal blog with just a lot of Steve/Tony posts, so I don't think I'd necessarily recommend myself. :3)

Ooooh, gosh, I'm sorry! That really sucks D:

But, TBH, you probably don't want to so much hang out in tags anyway because a LOT of the time there's some pretty stupid stuff in there, or there are a lot of reposts where people don't give proper credit to the original creator.

What I did was, once I found some blogs I liked, I checked out who THEY were reblogging from and then would start following them as well! It's kind of like having a built in reference saying 'hey this person is pretty good because the person I'm following must like them!'

And heh. I know what you're imagining and you are definitely correct. I may even have a tag on my blog entirely dedicated to butts.

(I'm not sure how much you know about tumblr but tags on blogs work differently than the general tumblr tag... So like if you did check out bootycap.tumblr.com/tagged/butts you would stay on my blog but only see posts *I* have created or reblogged and tagged with 'butts' but if you go to the general www.tumblr.com/tagged/butts you'll see all posts by anyone who tagged it with 'butts'.)

You're about to head down the rabbit hole!

Tags aren't... regulated in any sense. You can literally use ANYTHING as a tag. Which is why for the steve/tony ship there are a million to look at: stevetony, superhusbands, stony, stevextony, ironshield, etc. Some people use unique tags on their blog, they come up with a quote or phrase that they think represents the ship and then will tag it with that. Like
"otp: it wasn't worth it" for example.

Some people use tags as a place to express an opinion on a post without having that opinion show up IN the post itself, so that only people who follow you/look at your blog will see what you have to say. Some people use tags so that others can blacklist posts if they don't want to see certain things. Right now, with The Winter Soldier under 2 months away a LOT of people are using browsers extensions to make it so that they can't see posts with tags like: #cap 2, #cap 2 spoilers, #the winter soldier, etc. so they wont see any spoilers for the movie (as long as the person posting them tags properly).

There are certainly generally accepted tags, like full actor or character names, movie titles, etc... but really it's up to the individual blogger. I know a lot of tags to my posts are just me keysmashing about how pretty something is :3

It's a pretty steep learning curve but once you get into the swing of things, good luck trying to get out! I hope you find what you're looking for, and feel free to ask me if you have any questions about this stuff! I spend far, FAR, too much time on that website.

Mostly what I do is follow the authors and artists I like who are currently in the fandom. Any time I read a fic I like, I look up the author to see if they have a livejournal/tumblr, and start following them. This kind of starts a chain reaction where I discover new authors and artists, and can keep up with all the best shippy things that are going on in fandom at the time.

I tend not to follow tags, as there's less quality control.

I only recently started navagating fandom through tumblr, and I did it slowly by just tracking a few things here and there i liked, participating in conversations and memes when i felt I had something to contribute, and not forcing it. As time has gone on I've become more and more active.

(lmk when you actually get the tumblr, so I can follow you :) )

There's also ao3feed-stevetony.tumblr.com (http://ao3feed-stevetony.tumblr.com), which posts links to all the stony fics being published on AO3 - that's a good way to find authors and their tumblrs (a LOT of authors have a little "hi, come find me on tumblr" blurb in the notes at the end of their fics)

If you can use the 'find new blogs' function, that will help you search for tumblrs without using tags - the recommendations are based off your likes and reblogs and who you're already following, so often there's cool stuff there. And definitely check out people's 'following' lists on their tumblrs, it's a great way to find less obvious blogs - I found shawarmababy.tumblr.com (http://shawarmababy.tumblr.com) that way, and that blog has a fantastic Stony fic rec list, for instance.

Who are you and what have you done to Mem and why am I learning of it from an LJ comm?

Anyway. What you need is xkit. I changed my browser to be able to use it. It really makes tumblring easier. There are a lot of extensions. You want blacklist, and probably many others (classic search and tags on sidebar make using tags MUCH easier, if your internet would allow it).

And you want to follow askjxc. Trust me. They don't post often, but you don't want to miss it.

I don't follow tags, but I search on them occasionally to see if there are any blogs that I'm not following that I might like.
