Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 09 October 2011

Hello and welcome to the weekly [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! This post is late, but the turkey was good, as was the wine.

A few comm items:Good work on the big bangs, everyone! If you haven't checked out the discussion of what fests and challenges we're planning next, please do so (LJ and DW). We want to hear from everyone. Also, do take a look at the Friending Meme I posted on Friday. There's still some activity there, and it's a great way to chat with people you haven't talked to before (DW and LJ).

Avengers news, there's been a ton of it lately. If you watch ET, they've got a set visit scheduled for tonight's show. Also OMG! TRAILER TOMORROW! I'M SO EXCITED! -cough- In anticipation of that, they've release a couple sets of hi-res stills. No new Steve/Tony interaction, but a nice picture of Maria Hill, who's a favourite of mine. Oh, and product placement, but hey, it's shiny!

NYCC is this weekend. Marvel has a page for all the stuff they're doing. The comm has a poll for a possibly Cap/Iron Man meet up (go check it out if you're going to be in NYC on Saturday or Sunday). I hear Marvel is showing footage at the Avengers panel, but I don't know if it will be new stuff or not. Marvel TV is also going to have a panel. It looks like mostly animated stuff, but if you like A:EMH, they're showing a new episode there.

New RDJ interview about his career. Comic Book Movies highlights the Iron Man related quotes.

In actual comics news, Marvel's teasing something Cap related. I must say that I will not be shocked if the speculation turns out to be true. Marvel's also releasing more digital comics more widely. Or something. I must say digital comics confusing. If God had wanted us to read digital comics, He wouldn't have given us the Printing Press. Oh... wait.

Finally, if you're a new or recent member, hello and welcome! Our rules are here, and in the profile; this includes our warnings policy, so please read. If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments (Now at one hundred and fifty moments). If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. If you're looking for a particular story, why not try [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders? If you have any questions, you can comment here or PM a mod, that's me, [personal profile] garrideb and [personal profile] valtyr.

And feel free to post on-topic or off-topic stuff in the comments to this post! Just keep it reasonably safe for work, please.

Wow it's weird to see Maria Hill smiling. She hardly ever gets to crack a grin in the comics.

(It's probably just the actress smiling. But I like to imagine a happier Maria when I can.)

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!

I wish American Thanksgiving were a little earlier; it feels sometimes like we have this lonnnnnnnng stretch of fall until the holiday and then OMG crazy time before the end-of-December holidays. But I digress.
Do people have favorite unusual foods at Thanksgiving? For a long time my mom did sauerkraut for the meal (until she realized she was the only one eating it), and my auntie from Pennsylvania would do potato stuffing. Which was delicious, but demanded respect. Ooof.

Pumpkin pie from scratch? I salute you, madam. I've never even attempted that; pumpkins have always been purely decorative in my family. (Although we do roast the seeds.)

I do like better as it's more of a harvest festival and less of a colonial thing
Yes indeed. I love the celebration and reflection that happens as part of the holiday, but the way the US holiday whitewashes the things we did as a country to native peoples is deeply disturbing. To say the least.

I might be coming around to sauerkraut the same way I came around to mushrooms- very slowly and piecemeal. Good on a corned beef sandwich though. Homemade plum chutney sounds delicious!

I really liked Maria Hill in the Avengers/Iron Man comics. She was badass! And willing to break the rules for them. So awesome :3
